Help and guides

Everything you need to get going with Alle, step by step: adding decks, studying, sharing, and keeping Alle on your phone like an app.

Getting started

Alle turns the things you need to know into flashcards. Each study session has up to 10 cards. You see one side, give the answer, and Alle tells you how you did.

Alle uses spaced repetition: cards you get right come back after longer and longer breaks, and cards you miss come back sooner. So you spend your time on what you don't know yet, a few minutes a day.

  1. Open my.allecards.app and create an account with your name, email and a password.
  2. Confirm your email with the link we send you. You can open it on any device; the screen where you signed up continues on its own.
  3. Add your first deck: a ready-made one, your own Google Sheet, or one made with AI.
  4. Tap a deck to start a session.

Add Alle to your Home Screen

Alle runs in your browser, but you can keep it on your Home Screen. It then opens full screen, without the browser bars, just like an app.

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open my.allecards.app in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up).
  3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.
  4. Open Alle from its new icon. Pull down at the top of your decks to refresh.

Android

  1. Open my.allecards.app in Chrome.
  2. Tap the ⋮ menu, then Add to Home screen or Install app.

Ready-made decks

Ready-made decks are the quickest way to see how Alle works: Basic French, Organic chemistry, Art history, Guitar chords, Engineering formulas, Numbers in Portuguese, Road signs, Flags of the world, Multiplication tables and Telling time in Dutch.

  1. In Alle, tap +, then Browse ready-made decks. (When you have no decks yet, they're right on the home screen.)
  2. Tap a deck to add it. Add as many as you like.

You can also add them from the deck library on this website with Add to my Alle.

Turn a Google Sheet into flashcards

Any Google Sheet with two columns can become a deck: the front of each card in column A, the answer in column B.

Start from our template. A ready-to-fill Google Sheet with the right two columns. Opening it gives you your own copy in Google Drive; fill in your cards and publish it as below.

Use the Google Sheet template

1. Set up your sheet

  1. In the first row, write a name for each column, for example English and Dutch. These become the labels on your cards.
  2. From the second row on, one card per row: what you see in column A, the answer in column B.

Tips. To accept more than one right answer, separate them with a vertical bar: gaan|lopen. To show a picture, put an image link in column A. A cell like clock 6:30 shows a clock.

2. Publish it

  1. In Google Sheets, choose File → Share → Publish to web.
  2. Under Link, pick the tab with your cards, and change Web page to Comma-separated values (.csv).
  3. Click Publish and copy the link.

Publishing makes the sheet readable by anyone with the link. Don't publish sheets with private information.

3. Add it to Alle

  1. In Alle, tap +, then Import from Google Sheets.
  2. Paste the link. Alle fills in the deck name from your sheet; change it if you like.
  3. Tap Import deck.

When you edit the sheet later, your changes show up in Alle the next time you study that deck.

Create flashcards with AI

No material yet? Alle writes a prompt you can give to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any AI chat.

  1. In Alle, tap +, then Create with AI.
  2. Answer a few questions: the subject, the topic, what goes on each side, how many cards and the level.
  3. Copy the prompt and paste it into your AI chat.
  4. Copy the AI's whole reply, come back to Alle and paste it. You'll see a preview of the cards.
  5. Check a few answers (AI can make mistakes), give the deck a name, and tap Create deck.

Already have the reply? Use Paste AI deck prompt to skip straight to pasting.

Studying

How spaced repetition works

Spaced repetition is a way of studying where you review each card just before you’re likely to forget it. Instead of going through a whole deck every time, you see the cards that need you today.

In Alle, every card you get right waits longer before it comes back: two days at first, then four, then eight, up to about two weeks. If you’re almost right, the card keeps its place. If you miss it or skip it, it comes back the next day. Each session has up to 10 cards, starting with the ones that are due, so a few minutes a day is enough to keep everything fresh.

Multiple choice or typing

New decks start with multiple choice: pick the right answer from four. When you're ready for a challenge, switch to typing in Edit deck → Answer by. Typing is the best way to really remember.

How answers are checked

  • Correct: the card comes back after a longer break.
  • Almost right: a small typo. The card stays where it is, and Alle shows the letters that differ.
  • Not this time, or Skip: the card comes back sooner.

Let's fix these

Cards you miss come back at the end of the session. Rebuild the answer by tapping the words (or letters) in the right order. It helps the correct answer stick.

Shuffle

Tap Shuffle decks to mix cards from several decks into one session, and pick which decks to include.

Editing and organising decks

  • Edit deck (in each deck's ⋯ menu): change the colour, shape, name, answer mode and read-aloud language. Changes save on their own.
  • Reorder decks (in the menu behind your initials): drag decks into your own order. On a computer you can also drag decks directly.
  • Repaint decks: give all your decks fresh colours in one go.
  • Reset progress: start a deck over, as if you'd never studied it.
  • Remove deck: delete a deck and its progress.

Sharing decks

  1. In a deck's ⋯ menu, tap Share deck.
  2. Send the link to anyone, by message, email or however you like.

When they open it, Alle offers to add a copy to their decks. If they don't have an account yet, they create one first, and the deck is waiting right after. Your progress always stays private. To turn a link off, choose Stop sharing.

Your account

Tap your initials at the top right, then Account, to change your name, email, password, light or dark mode and deck colours. Forgot your password? On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password? and we'll email you a link. You can delete your account at any time in Account → Delete account; this removes everything for good.

Troubleshooting

I didn't get the confirmation email

Check your spam or junk folder, and mark the email as "not spam". Still nothing? On the waiting screen, tap Resend email.

“That link has expired or was already used”

Email links work once and expire after a while. Sign in normally, or ask for a new email.

My Google Sheet won't import

Make sure it's published to the web as CSV (not "Web page"), and that the first row has a name for both columns.

“Couldn't reach Alle”

Your connection dropped or something blocked the request. Check your internet connection, and if you use an ad or privacy blocker, try turning it off for my.allecards.app.
